It is our pleasure to invite you to New Bethany Ministries’ 26th Annual Souper Day Luncheon, to be held on Tuesday, October 17th at 12:00pm at the Blue Event Center. At this year’s event, we will be joined by Keynote Speaker Ashley Russo, two-time Emmy® winning executive producer, host of The PEAK TV and president of ASR Media Productions. Given Ashley’s background in partnering with local organizations combatting similar social issues, as well as her personal experience with New Bethany Ministries, Ashley’s words are sure to be illuminating. Ashley will be joined by New Bethany Ministries program graduates who will share their stories of success.
As the possibility of massive funding cuts looms before us, we see no slowing in the need for our services. In fact, within the past year another food desert has been identified in the Valley, meaning there are now nine food deserts locally. Four of these food deserts are in Bethlehem; three are in and around South Bethlehem. Additionally, the Lehigh Valley Promise Neighborhoods recently released results from their survey indicating that more than 33% of Southside households and 50% of households in the Marvine public housing neighborhood are food insecure. This survey only had a 47% return rate of all households in the neighborhoods surveyed, and did not include the western portion of the Southside, meaning that even these rates are an underestimate of local need.
As New Bethany Ministries has done for over 31 years, we maintain and expand our programming in reaction to local need while staying true to our mission. Over our many years of operation, we have helped over 100,000 of our neighbors. We proclaim 2017 officially as the year of “everyone matters,” a reminder of our mission to provide basic services with dignity and respect to the hungry, homeless, poor, and mentally ill of the Lehigh Valley. Last year we served over 57,000 meals to more than 1,700 unique individuals. With our take-home food services, referrals, and other programming, we impacted more than 6,000 individuals throughout the year. We face similar need in 2017.
Therefore, we ask you to join us at our 26th Annual Souper Day fundraising event and to consider partnering with us to sustain our mission. Souper Day is a celebration of the people we serve as well as the volunteers, donors, Board members, and staff that make it all possible. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, October 17th, 12:00 pm, at the Event Center at Blue. Thanks to the generosity of the Event Center, 100% of the dollars donated go directly to fund our programs and make it possible for us to continue our mission.
On behalf of the board, staff and all those we serve, our most sincere thanks to all who share their time, talents, and treasures with New Bethany Ministries.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity in 2016. Thanks to your partnership we will be able to not only continue to serve those most in need in our community but expand our services as we hope to complete our new food pantry and welcome two families into our newly renovated homes during the first half of 2017. 2017 also will be the year when New Bethany Ministries celebrates the lives of those we serve through the theme Everyone Matters. New Bethany and those that support us – all of you – understand the importance of treating each individual with kindness, respect, and compassion. In 2017 we will be working to break down barriers and to help our community understand the diversity of the population we serve and the issues that make our services essential. There are many things that can bring a person to need our services. I have said it before…but for the grace of God go I. Help is never easy to request. That is why it is important that every person who comes to our door knows that we care, that we listen and do not judge, that they are welcome. Our only goal is to make it possible for each person to enjoy a secure future. Please join us in 2017 as we demonstrate that in the Lehigh Valley Everyone Matters.
