The newly-named Diane Elliott Center for Community Partnerships provides employment assistance, retail assistance, wellness services, and educational opportunities. For over 34 years, New Bethany Ministries has offered essential services to those experiencing hunger, homelessness, poverty, or suffering from mental illness in Northampton County.
Many of these people face challenges similar to everyone, but with the lack of support, these challenges can quickly evolve into crises. Very often, organizational systems are opaque to those facing challenges and it is not made clear what questions to ask, who to ask, or what you are entitled to. The Elliott Center is a place where different providers can help ease these challenges and bring people closer to stability. New Bethany Ministries has been able to provide a helping hand to over 100,000 neighbors since its establishment.
The Diane Elliott Center is the next step in helping our neighbors. When facing hunger and homelessness, you are also faced with many other challenges that are associated with stability such as mental health. It is important to offer services that will work to bring guests from crisis to stability with the knowledge and resources to plan for the future in a longer-term capacity. When the challenges that you face everyday are debilitating, it can be near impossible to conceptualize a plan for next year. The Mollard Hospitality Center works to help alleviate the stress and the burden of this planning. The Diane Elliott Center will work to continue this assistance through incorporating life skill programming. Some of the programming will include working to create an email account and get in the habit of checking the account frequently on the computers provided in the center for job applications. There are also plans to have yoga classes or barre classes in the center to create a healthy mental space for guests.
With a soft opening in 2018 and a Grand Opening in 2019, the Diane Elliot Center has begun providing employment assistance, rental assistance, wellness services, and educational opportunities. The Elliott Center has been fully remodeled and is located in our former food pantry space within the Mollard Hospitality Center . Our Hospitality Center is home to the only free, public showers in the Valley. Guests looking to wash up can take a hot shower in our two, newly-renovated shower facilities. They can also take advantage of our in-house laundry machine. The wellness center, also located inside the Hospitality Center, provides holistic services via partnerships. Twice a month, there is a free primary care clinic for guests running out of the Wellness Center through partnership with the Lehigh Valley Health Network’s Street Medicine Program. Additionally, a bilingual representative from Haven House visits the Wellness Center weekly, providing skills workshops and one-on-one referral services.
As seen in our 2018 Impact Report, 82 guests participated in the Elliott Center Programming since the soft opening towards the end of 2018. Of those participants, 47 received employment or rental assistance and 35 were served by the LVHN’s Street Medicine Program. We are excited about the possibilities that this addition offers our guests and the impact that it will have on the future of New Bethany.
